Vail lays claim to be the number one ski resort in America. Other than its excellent accommodation facilities, the “Epic” ski pass offers the biggest ski area experience in the USA, (together with many other resorts including Heavenly, Stowe, Whistler, Beaver Creek, Northstar,Breckenridge and Park City) rivalling in size the major French ski areas. On one lift pass when staying in Vail, you can ski not only Vail and Beaver Creek on your doorstep but locally Breckenridge and Keystone as well on the Epic Pass). That’s over 800 km of American skiing… albeit not interconnected. Vail itself boasts the legendary back bowls, including the terrific terrain of Blue Sky Basin, Steep and Deep, Lovers Leap and Pete’s Bowl. Just over 7 miles wide and one mile deep, Vail is home to some of the famous champagne powder, not to mention miles upon miles of superb runs on the front side of the mountain, from the long, cruising and often groomed runs of Avanti and Born Free, through to the steep moguls of Highline and the black run of Riva Ridge. The cruise on a groomed blue run, on a wide piste, between the trees, with few people around you, typifies skiing in America. It’s just fantastic for your confidence and brilliant for social distancing!
Accommodations in Vail range from superb hotels, such as the Sonnenalp, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or Sebastian to apartments, large homes or catered chalets for your ski holiday and some of these options can suit almost any budget and groups sizes. You can also marvel at the views from Two Elk restaurant, perhaps the largest mountain eatery in the world and certainly one of the highest. Nearby Beaver Creek, is the ideal venue for those who enjoy intermediate cruising days out and sampling the steep runs of the Birds of Prey men’s downhill run, or the bumps on Grouse Mountain. It’s also a boarder’s paradise.
