Many winter sports enthusiasts enjoy looking for somewhere different and often outside Europe, Canada is a popular choice. There are a number of options in Canada but if you want a good chance of skiing untracked powder on many reasonably easy slopes, put Big White firmly on the shortlist.Big White has fantastic and reliable snow conditions and if you are an intermediate looking to learn to ski powder, or you want to try gladed skiing, there can be few better places to visit and sample over 120km of pistes on 96 runs. If however lively après ski is high on your list, (like Whistler) or extensive steep slopes then Big White may not be a good fit for your party, so perhaps it would be better to look elsewhere.Families or groups of intermediates keen to improve their powder technique would get the most out of skiing here.
Big White is a purpose-built and pedestrianised ski resort that has more visitor beds than any other British Columbia resort except Whistler. That implies its always busy but actually it always seems relatively quiet apart from weekend traffic from the more locally based enthusiasts. It’s less than an hour from Kelowna airport, which is easily accessed from Vancouver.
Big White is rather spread out but attractively built in wood and stone, with a family-friendly traffic-free centre.The resort really was built with convenience in mind, so you will find many ski-in/ski-out excellent quality and modern condos.
Trees are pretty much all over the place and near the top of the mountain the trees usually stay white all winter, but on white out days they can make visibility a little tricky though they are great fun to ski between on blue sky or even snowy days.
